Don't Save The Best For Last

John 2:1-11 ~ Water to Wine

Jesus and His mother were invited to a wedding banquet. The host ran out of wine which was really embarrassing to have happen, so Jesus stepped in and told the servants to go fill up the jars with water and bring them into the banquet hall. Only the servants knew that the jars had once been filled with water and the host of the banquet called the bridegroom aside and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."

This passage is full of such amazing meaning. In biblical times they would drink the best wine first and then once they got drunk they would drink the cheaper stuff. But here the host is saying, you save the best wine till now? Jesus made the best wine... from water! This is such a beautiful picture of Christ. Christ can take something ugly or tasteless and make it beautiful and tasteful. Why wait until everything runs out before turning to Jesus? Why save the best until last?

In life we shouldn't! We should turn to Jesus now and live in His amazing love and grace first, not last. People look everywhere but to God for excitement and meaning. For some reason, people expect God to be dull and lifeless. Just as the wine Jesus made was the best, so life in Him is better than life on our own.
