"Until the time that His word came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him." Psalm 105:19
Just because time has passed doesn't mean His promises are null. We think that it is a lost cause and that we will never receive the promises God has given us because time. Our God is a God who remembers His word and keeps His promises. He will always keep His promise, "He remembers His covenant forever" (v.8). If there is one thing I can look back on and remember it is God's timing, His perfect timing. He will bring everything to pass, He will come through.
Are we able to wait?
While we are waiting for His promises to come we can also be "tested by the word of the Lord" or another way of saying we will face trials. Sometimes waiting in itself is a trial. But there are also other trials that can have a huge affect on our relationship with God as we wait upon His promises. I love that even in our trials, something beautiful comes. The whole time we are waiting we are questioning God and maybe even letting the enemy speak lies into our lives like, "Did the Lord really promise you that?". A great example of this is Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers after receiving dreams and visions about being a ruler on earth. When Joseph was in prison do you think he doubted his role as a future ruler? You bet he did! But no matter what we must rely on God's promise and believe with full faith He will bring it to pass and into completion.
Who's bigger?
God and His Word or your circumstance/trial? God wants us to depend on Him... if everything came easy in life we wouldn't depend on Him, you won't mature, and we wouldn't have a testimony to encourage others with. Whenever facing a trial in my life I always pray, "I want to come through this stronger in You." Another reason for trials and patience and waiting on the Lord is so that He can prepare us for what is to come, so that He can prepare us for His promise. "But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." (James 1:4). We need to let patience have it's work in us, we need to enjoy the ride and chase after Christ while patience is being perfected in us.
Nothing can stand against His plan, His Word does not fall to the ground, and His hand is working in and on and through everything. Nothing in your life is random, everything is filtered through the loving hand of our Father. Trust in Him, He is in complete and total control and wants what is best for you... in everything in life; good or bad, He is working, able, moving, and redeeming.
Rest and meditate on these promises:
Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:19)
He opened the rock, and water gushed out; It ran in the dry places like a river. (Psalm 105:41)
"that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1:7)
