Glory in the Wilderness

Exodus 14 - Crossing the Red Sea

This chapter has so many life applicable verses, moments, and pictures. In the first 4 verses we see that the Lord gets the glory when we are in the wilderness. When we have nowhere to go and we are stuck in a "wilderness" of life emotionally, spiritually, or physically, the Lord gets the glory because we can't do anything about it! We need Him to save us! Just like the Israelites wandering in the wilderness and being shut in, God says in the next verse, "I will get glory over Pharaoh and they shall know that I am the Lord".

We can apply this to our lives by holding fast to the promise and truth the Lord gave the Israelites here in the wilderness! If we are being bogged down by this world, the cares of it, society, a person, anything... we have to know and trust that the Lord wants people to know He saves, and He saves mightily. Why wouldn't he want to deliver you or rescue you? He loves you and wants to see you free, that's why He sent His only Son to die for you! So you could be free eternally! And I hate to say it but the more hopeless a situation looks, the more glory God gets... so if you are feeling extremely hopeless in a situation, think of how much more glory the Lord will get when He delivers you from it! Whenever I am in a terrible situation or circumstance I kinda get a little excited... cause I know that God will get that much more glory. Even in the book of Daniel where Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are in the furnace and about to get burned to death, they see a fourth man standing in the fire! And they are not consumed by the flames! How much stronger a testimony of God's power is it that He waited till they were IN the fire to save them? He could have saved them anytime He wanted to... before they got in the fire, before they were even captured... but He waited until they were IN the fire, how much more powerful is our God than mere man?! Our God is always on time and His timing is always perfect for His testimony.

Let us always trust in our God's mighty saving hand, no matter what wilderness we are wandering in or furnace we are standing in. He delights in saving us. He loves it even more when we know we need Him to.

And then the Lord through Moses says, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work out for you today." (Exodus 14:13) - how encouraging! No matter where we are in this temporary life, may we always fear not and stand firm and see salvation. Amen.

This next part is one of my favorites... in verse 16 the Lord tells Moses, "Life up YOUR staff, and stretch out YOUR hand over the sea and divide it." - I love that God right there is saying YOU do it! I am guiding you, I gave you people, I gave you a staff, I am giving you power, YOU do it! He is allowing Moses to be apart of His plan of redemption for the Israelites and we who are Christians are ambassadors of Christ! We get to carry the Gospel message into a world that needs redemption, just like Moses we have been given the opportunity and tools by the Lord to help SAVE! Yes we should always go to the Lord and acknowledge Him in all our ways and wait on Him BUT He also wants to see us take action! He has given us His Holy Spirit and His strength and His Word, let's use it now folks! In the verse before (Exodus 14:15) God says "Why do you cry to me? Tell the people to go forward!" - which is amazing! God wants us to lead as well as follow. We are to follow Him and take all that He has given us and lead others forward to freedom and the promise land! This was just mind blowing and compelling for me to hear this morning from the Holy Spirit.

And I REALLY feel the Lord calling out our generation to take all the fellowship, discipleship, and worship we cultivate in church or with eachother and GO. And lead people to freedom and the Promise Land of Heaven! Let's get serious about salvation guys! And don't let the fear of man get in your way. When I get to Heaven I know that Jesus isn't going to say "Hey Linds, I think you took Me to seriously on earth... You were a little to urgent, a little to excited, a little to risky." HECK NO! Jesus is going to say "Well done my good and faithful servant!" and oh how badly I want to hear those words!

Our generation is going to be the one to lead non-believers and the next generation into freedom, joy, and the Promise Land - by taking up our staff and stretching out our hands. Just like Moses did through the power of God.

May it be so.
